The Art of Reiki

My Reiki Story…

It was at the end of 2003 or beginning of 2004 that I re-attended a Silva Method Seminar.  My daughter had been suffering from incapacitating pain that was finally diagnosed as fibromyalgia (after an extended time of being told it was all in her head of course.)  I met a Reiki Master there and he told me to go get attuned to Reiki and work on my daughter.  I also was unhappy in my career and he suggested that I look at making healing my career… he felt that I was meant to be a healer …and coach.  Coach? I remember asking him to describe what he was talking  about, as I had no clue! (I’ve since figured it out!)  ;)

I did listen though.  I became attuned to Reiki Level II and started working on my daughter.  She, at the tender age of 22, was living on Vicodin and I was worried that she’d become addicted, even though she didn’t seem to get much relief from the pain, even from Vicodin… sometimes she’d have to get pain shots on top of it from her pain management doctor.   Time passed she seemed to be doing better and better… it was gradual, not overnight.  But there was improvement.

She became pregnant with my first grandchild.  Fibro tends to go into remission with pregnancy, so after the baby was born I waited for her to have the incapacitating pain again.  She didn’t get it… then she pointed out to me that even before she had gotten pregnant it was gone and she credited the Reiki for the improvement!  The whole time I was sending Reiki to her or working on her in person I doubted that it would work.

It didn’t matter though, whether I believed or not!  The energy is real!  It does work, independent of your belief or my belief.  Of course now I believe… and I’ve gone on to study and cultivate the energy extensively with my Qigong training and meditations.  So I am a better channel today for the energy than I was before, when my daughter’s health improved radically and her pain went away!  My clients have noticed a difference in the energy that I channel and I continue to practice and study Qigong and meditate, building chi and becoming a more efficient channel and more skilled healer.  It is my life’s work, my calling.

The Reiki – Qigong Connection…

I recently received new attunements, graciously given by my new Reiki Master, Dan Ferrera. The certificates are below. I was originally attuned to Reiki level 1 & 2 in May of 2004 and to Master level in 2006. I am attuned to Usui Reiki, as well as, Kundalini Reiki and Seichim. Since practicing Qigong over the past year I’ve noticed, and more importantly my regular clients have noticed, increased power in my Reiki healing. This is because Qigong is the practice of cultivating energy. I wanted to be able to do more than just channel the energy… I wanted a greater understanding and experience of the energy. I have found that through Qigong I can not only work with the energy, but also play with the energy. I have a greater sensitivity to the energy and I seem to be a more effective channel for it as a result of my ongoing training. My journey and adventures continue! I invite you to join me!

More about Reiki

Reiki (pronounced RAY-key), is a healing art that balances the energy through the chakra’s and balances the body, mind and spirit. The energy techniques of Reiki treat the mind, body, and spirit to help you feel secure, relaxed and peaceful. Reiki is a great way to get back into balance!

Reiki is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy. Since ancient times man has believed that life energy flows through the body, affecting our bodies, minds, and emotions.

What Reiki Energy can do for You:

  • Relieve Pain
  • Diffuse Stress & Anxiety
  • Promote Relaxation
  • Remove Energy Blockages
  • Induce a sense of Calm & Well-being
  • Promote Healing
  • Compliment traditional medical treatments,
    natural therapies, and massage therapy

Reiki is used in a growing number of hospitals throughout the world.

Reiki draws on the Universal Life Energy to help all people of all ages, in any state of health. It is nurturing and offers comfort and support for the good health and balance of body, mind and emotions.

What is Reiki?

It is a method of hands-on healing. It can also be done via distance. It taps into the Universal Life Force Energy. This energy has been recognized in many cultures. In Japan the philosophers and martial artists call it ki, in China it is known as chi and in India: prana.

Reiki is based on the teachings of a Japanese man, Mikao Usui. Usui lived in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He studied many years in search of the healing energy and after a long meditation he found his answers. He passed his knowledge on to a group and Reiki has spread through out the world, since.

Reiki is not massage or hypnosis. The Practitioner is attuned and becomes a channel for the Universal Life Force to flow through. Reiki gently and powerfully promotes balance in the body. Once the energy is balanced and blockages are cleared the energy flows and positive results occur.

Reiki and Modern Medicine…

Current medical research focuses on verifying Reiki’s results, not how it works. The results are impressive. Numerous studies show improvement in immune and nervous system functioning. Another study showed a ”highly significant reduction in Pain” following Reiki treatment. Even cancer patients have reported positive results.

At Columbia/HCA Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, surgical patients decreased their use of pain medications, stayed for shorter periods, and reported increased satisfaction with pre– and post surgical Reiki sessions.

A Reiki Session…

Go to your Reiki Session in loose, comfortable clothing. Usually you will lie on a table fully clothed, but you can receive Reiki in almost any setting, even a chair or a hospital bed. Reiki will even work through casts and bandages… and over distances! Unlike massage there are no oils used, and no clothes removed.

The practitioner places his or her hands on or above your head, shoulders, back, chest, stomach, and limbs and usually follows a routine series of hand positions.

They can also place their hands over an injury or area of discomfort if you would like them to. The energy flows through, not from, the practitioner.

You will receive the amount of energy you need to bring your system into balance.

It might not look like anything is going on to observers, but those who experience Reiki know otherwise. Results vary from one person to the next but most report experiencing a deep relaxation, calm and a feeling of warmth and comfort. You may even fall asleep.

Results may be subtle. Sometimes recipients say they feel more after the session , and some experience powerful sensations or emotions, during or after a session.Your practitioner will want to hear about your experiences to the extent you are comfortable sharing them.

Reiki can be done as a hands-on healing… it may also be done over distance if the practitioner has been attuned to the 2nd level of Reiki. A Reiki Master is capable of passing attunements and teaching Reiki.

The Reiki Principles that sum up Reiki philosophy are:

The Reiki Principles*

Just for today, do not anger.

Just for today, do not worry.

We shall count our blessings and honor our fathers and mothers, our teachers and neighbors and honor our food.

Make an honest living.

Be kind to everything that has life.

Always let your practitioner know of any health concerns you have, and if anything makes you uncomfortable.
